Yaya and Hillary both grew up with a love of dance and have trained in many different styles starting at a young age. Dance and movement has always been a huge part of their lives, but when it came to exercise, they both struggled to find a workout that was as exciting and engaging as dance! After years of less than exciting gym sessions, both Yaya and Hillary started finding workouts that they loved and were inspired to bring these ideas to their community. They realized that fitness didn’t have to be a chore, but something you really looked forward to! It was the way they made friends, the way they tried new things, and eventually, the way they met each other!
Hillary fell in love with dance at a very early age and her passion has continued to grow and develop throughout her life. After dedicating herself to dance throughout her youth and high school years, Hillary decided that her life would not be complete if she was not dancing every day. She attended Loyola Marymount University where she got her B.A. in Dance with an emphasis in Teaching and Choreography. Hillary danced professionally for many years after college and worked for companies like Disney and Holland America Cruise Lines. She also lived and performed in New York, where she trained with some of the best dancers and dance instructors in the world (she even danced with the Muppets!). She is extensively trained in Jazz, Musical Theatre, Hip-hop, Ballet, Tap and also has a background in Cheerleading.
Hillary's dance training has taught her the importance of a strong and healthy body, inspiring her to get certified in Pilates and POUND, become a true lover of Yoga, and study nutrition and health in her free time. She also choreographs musical theatre shows for Family Theatre, INC in Hermosa Beach and founded Spotlight Dance Parties (who has found a home with Shine Studio!), a dance party company that does kids parties, wedding dances, flash mobs, and more!
Yaya has always been involved in dance and the arts. At a young age she started with Hula and Tahitian, dancing in festivals around Southern California. In high school she started training in Jazz, Ballet, Modern dance and Hip-hop. She went on to join her college dance team, then to a professional dance company, and has had the opportunity to dance at various shows, conventions and theme parks.
Yaya is now a certified Yoga teacher, POUND Pro and has taught in numerous studios around the South Bay. She also loves taking and teaching Barre classes, working on her skills in aerial silks, and mastering her crow pose in Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga. Because of her involvement with POUND, Yaya has been on E! News, PopSugar TV, GoodDay LA and had the opportunity to teach POUND at the NIKE Training Club event in front of 2,000 people! Yaya is proud to be a Master Trainer for Kate Hudson’s clothing line, Fabletics, and an Ambassador for MindBody Online.
Bria loves dance, health and fitness. She is a Certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Nutrition Specialist with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Bria studied at the University of California Irvine where she received her BA in Dance. She was a SparKid, dancer for the WNBA Los Angeles Sparks, for 5 years and a Los Angeles Laker Girl for 5 years! As a professional dancer in the film and television industry, her credits include, but are not limited to: Disney Channel, Nike, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Cee-Lo, Lenny Kravitz, and various workout/fitness DVDs and infomercials.
Grace is from sunny Torrance, CA and grew up as a Synchronized Swimmer. Grace’s love of choreography and strength training began there and continued with a career in coaching synchronized swimming for 12 years. In 2003, after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism, Grace decided to put her health first and began to look at different formats to help her get her work out on. After randomly walking into a POUND class by accident she was immediately hooked to the format that closely resembled the same choreography and strength training she found in synchronized swimming. With the help and loving push from Pound Master Yaya, Grace took the leap to becoming a POUND Pro. Now as a Pro and a BarreBabe instructor, with the help of the #ShineSociety, Grace has found a loving community that consistently provides support and allows her to be her awkward and silly self, without judgment. Outside of the studio you can find Grace obsessing over her pups Bandit (10 years) and Ezra (10 months).
Gia has been a dancer her entire life and has danced professionally with companies like Columbia City Ballet and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. She grew up in Thousand Oaks, CA and trained in all styles of dance throughout high school. She went on to earn a BA in dance at UC Irvine while simultaneously completing her Pilates teacher training with Diane Diefenderfer at Studio du Corps in 2007. When she isn’t dancing, Gia enjoys hiking with her dog, and she recently started rock climbing. She’s happy to be part of Shine Studio because it’s a wonderful community of people who promote positivity and joy!
Erin grew up in Colorado with a love for sports. When she was in college she started going to yoga classes to help with chronic pain and stress and fell in love! After an injury she decided she needed to take better care of her body and signed-up for a teacher training in Arizona. She has a passion for yoga and helping others to feel positive, confident and beautiful. When Erin isn’t working out or doing yoga, she is out on an adventure with her husband and sometimes her wonderful dog Bella. She loves being a part of the Shine community because it was the first studio she felt like home in after moving to LA. The positivity and encouragement from Hillary, Yaya, and the clients is so unique and she feels so blessed to be a part of such a beautiful community.
